The documentary “Divine Technology?” examines the promises of transhumanism; immortality, bliss, freedom from suffering – and places them in the context of spiritual teachings.
For millennia, humans have sought answers to life’s great questions through religion, philosophy or, since the Enlightenment, through science. Today, technology seems to have finally accomplished this mission. Powerful companies and scientists are advancing these developments with immense promises that have already been woven into our everyday lives.
Artificial intelligence and advances in biotechnology nourish the vision of a world without suffering and of a “New Human” who overcomes human limitations; living a happy, intelligent, healthy, and perhaps even immortal life. The increasingly popular philosophy of transhumanism promises a happiness that could, in the near future, be achieved through technology.
However, the more this technological progress permeates our lives, the more pressing the question becomes: Which idea of humanity lies behind these hopes? What is meant by happiness, and what do we mean by suffering that must be overcome? How intelligent are machines? And can they help us achieve a higher level of consciousness? Or do we risk being overtaken by our own creations?
The film explores these questions on a journey of discovery into the inner dimension of the digital age. In individual interviews, transhumanists David Pearce and Prof. Dr. Stefan Lorenz Sorgner, education researcher Prof. Dr. Edwin Hübner, and spiritual teachers UNMANI Liza Hyde and OM C. Parkin are featured.
The viewer is guided into the philosophical world of transhumanism, which is set against a spiritual teaching dating back thousands of years, allowing the depths of the soul and true consciousness to be touched.
